The Mercedes-Benz M272 engine is a 90-degree V6 engine featuring an aluminum block and cylinder heads, equipped with dual overhead camshafts (DOHC—four valves per cylinder) and a continuously variable valve timing system for both the intake and exhaust. Introduced in 2004, the common 3.5-liter (E35) variant of this engine series produces between 268 and 311 horsepower and 258 to 266 pound-feet of torque; to effectively suppress vibrations, the engine incorporates a magnesium alloy intake manifold and a balance shaft design.
